    It's supposed to reduce your battery drain.

    Mine won't switch to GSM either...

    turning off the 3g will improve you battery life but your data will not be as fast

    No, it changes nothing on your plan. 3G tends to eat battery faster than 2G (Edge). Edge is older tech that has lower data speeds. So if you set your phone to look for the older 2G signal instead of 3G, the amount of data per second is much lower and doesn't tax your phone's systems as much.

    It's kinda like using rabbit ears on your tv instead of a cable box. You can still get the same data either way,just not as high quality delivery, and you don't use the electricity for an extra box.
