    HELP! with disabling 3g internet

I received a Moto Backflip as a gift recently, but I can't figure out how to disable the 3G internet. I have not paid for a data package, I simply slipped my SIM card in and that's it.
Since the Backflip is a smartphone, it's automatically wanting to connect to the 3G Network for updates, but I don't want it to. It's too costly without the data package.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to keep the phone from automatically connecting? I'm fine with just using Wi-Fi for the internet. Thanks!

You can install Quick Settings which has an option to turn off the wireless data. This should do it for you.

Just an FYI, if you are on AT&T and they find out you have the backflip (which is easy enough), they will automatically add data @ $30/mo. Good luck with that

@jmgib ; nice program, thank you. I goto Canada, now a way to really kill data.

If you're just looking to keep from using data while roaming, there is an option for that in the standard Settings.

Settings -> Wireless Controls -> Mobile Networks -> Data Roaming

Try editing the APN / APN MMS servers so they can't possibly connect to your operator's data network...
