I tried already to flash the OEM firmware "att-motus-endive-3.0.1390-secure-production-supermonster-customer.sbf" with RSD lite.
If after doing that, you still have keyboard problems... The only thing I can think of would be hardware issues. Flashing the SBF flashes everything back to stock, including the radio.img, recovery.img, and the android system files.

it is like the recovery partition disappears when I have this problem, because if I try to start phone in recovery mode (power+camera>down volume) I get a blue screen (security on, fastboot disabled) and I can't get the recovery

Did the problem start though before you rooted your phone?

I suppose it is possible that you had a bad upgrade or the download was corrupted, but I don't believe I have seen anyone else reporting the issue you have, where the recovery partition was corrupted after the official upgrade from Android 1.5 to 2.1.

One thing you can try to do, since you say reflashing a recovery image resolves it, if you put the recovery image in /system/recovery.img the phone will reflash that image on boot, so this may be a workaround for you.

If you rename j_r0dd's recovery or whichever image you are using to just "recovery.img" you can do the following to do this.

From a command prompt on your PC with adb setup
    Code:
CD TO WHEREVER THE recovery.img IS LOCATED
    adb push recovery.img /system/recovery.img

Why don't you just try downloading ROM MANAGER from the market and using that clockwork mod recovery to do what you have to do. It has almost all of the features that j_r0dd's has. I am using it with my Preclair v.1.2.1 now.

Yes, you have to have root to use ROM Manager.
