    my brother was given a backflip and he wants to root it so what is the best way to go about doing that and what are some good roms for the backflip

    The easiest way to root the phone would be to install the official Motorola 2.1 upgrade (if it isn't already installed on the phone) and then obtain z4root from XDA-Developers forum and install it on the phone. Then you can just run the app to root the phone. There are many threads on this subject already. Just use search.

    Hopefully you make a complete backup of your ROM before touching any apps that might cause you problems.
