Changing Lock/Unlock Sounds

I'm new to the Droid, and would like to change some of the sounds. I just got a Motorola Cliq 2. I was able to change the Ring and Notification sounds to my own MP3 files, but have been struggling with the Lock/Unlock sounds. The only option for these sounds is "enable" or "disable". I found where the sounds are located, using Root Explorer. But the files are 'read only'. From what I read, I need to "jailbreak" or "root" the phone. So, I downloaded/installed z4root, and ran that. The 2 options are "Temporary Root" and "Permanent Root". From what I read, once I "root" the phone, I will have an option in my Root Explorer to change the files to "read write', with a button on the top right. But when I run z4root, whether I pick "Temporary Root" or "Permanent Root", I am not able to change the permissions of the files/directories; I still do not see the button permitting me to change the permissions. Am I taking the right approach? Any help would be great. Thanks!

You run Z4Root. Now pick permanent root. Let it run. If you don't have the SuperUser app after you tried to root the phone then it failed and you'll need to do something else. Do you have USB Debugging enabled in the phone's settings?

Hello, and thanks for the reply. Yes, USB Debugging is enabled. When I try z4root, it tries/thinks for a while, trying to get a shell. Eventually it returns to the main icon menu where I selected z4root initially. If I try to run it again, I get an error that z4root had a problem and will be forced to quit. At this time, I still don't have any ability to modify the files. Are there any other applications like z4root which might work on a cliq 2 ?

If you have a PC you can try SuperOneClick. It runs the same exploit attack but it does so from an external shell, so it's a lot harder to block with a simple software fix.
