I've tried looking around on different forums to find an answer and I've found mixed responses. Some say an unlocked version can work, some say it can't since it's CDMA only. Can I get a definitive answer?

You can't get a CDMA phone to work on AT&T because it's a CDMA phone and AT&T is GSM. The antennas, software, etc, are all different. The Bionic has a SIM card to do LTE, but even Verizon and AT&T's LTE standards are different.
Your best bet is to get an Atrix/Atrix 2 to work on AT&T.

What fbm said. They have some phones that have a sim and work on both cdma and gsm. However, these cdma only work on europes gsm. The radio bands here in the usa do not allow it.
