Rooted my DROID X before the latest OTA update...what do?
Hey guys, I'm the happy owner of a DROID X which I rooted a couple months ago, after the OTA update to Froyo. Since then there has been an OTA update released...not Gingerbread but an update to Froyo.
I can't find much information on what the update entails, whether it's possible to reroot after the update, etc. Maybe there's a way, with root, to make it shut up about the update, if it's not worth doing?

You can freeze the updater with titanium, most rooted people found a way to get the update to keep up with current ROMs, if you are stock rooted you should be able to take it. If you have removed bloatware/ROM'd/Themed etc you have to get back to a stock backup to take the OTA. There is an update.zip out now that will update you no matter what state your phone is in, it's easier than trying to get to stock if you don't have a stock nandroid but harder than just taking the OTA if you're stock

Yes, you want to stay up to date on updates especially if you're looking to rom. Install the update and if it fails, you can find the error and we can help troubleshoot it. Use the update zip 1kds gave you for the easy update.

Sweet. I just installed the DROID X bootstrap and made a backup, now I'm ready to try update.zip.

Yeah, that's the easiest way to do it.

Whoa, so there is a significant window when a wrong move such as trying to create a backup, or rooting, will brick the phone? And I have to re-root AND re-activate the phone? This seems a bit much.
What kind of great advantages does this (seemingly relatively minor) update bring to make it worth it?

It's just bug fixes, the update itself isn't worth a whole lot, but like I said most root users updated in one way or another to be able to keep up with current ROMs. You will have to re-activate, that only takes a couple minutes using *228 option 1, and re-rooting only takes seconds using z4root

Alright, I'm curious, what bug fixes? Has a detailed list been released?
Also, I'm wading into deeper territory, what does "keeping up with the ROMs" mean?

Software Update: DROID X by Motorola
ROMs are like custom built operating systems, there are developers on these forums that build them, they are built off of current system versions so to use the newest ones you have to be up to date

Awesome, thanks for the list.
I think I get what ROMs are but I thought a ROM was completely self-contained as far as installing it, like a ROM would have within it whatever version of the radio or kernel or whatever. It's like wiping everything clean and starting over. Is this not true?
