Gorilla Glass can still be scratched. I had it happen to my original D1.

Definitely get the screen protector. It's one of those better to have it and not need it than vice versa scenarios.

Yes, the Droid X does in fact have Gorilla Glass. It is advisable to get a screen protector if you keep your phone in your pocket along with keys/change and such though.
I know some users who have naked DX's and not get a scratch on it. Depends on how careful a person is I suppose.

There is a big difference between scratch resistant and scratch proof, scratch resistant is still going to scratch, Gorilla glass it's just going to take a little longer than regular glass. I'm not saying what happened doesn't suck but why anyone would go without a screen protector on a $500 phone is beyond me. I buy the 5 pack of protectors, that you cut to fit your screen, for $6.50 at Walmart and they do their job.

I got the three pack of Droid X proprietary screen protectors for about the same price at Verizon. At the very slow rate of use, I'll only need that three pack before I upgrade.

    It's so worth it.

I picked up some cheapies on eBay for my D1 and I still have one. I haven't put it on because the last one I had on let so much grease from my fingers seep through it was sliding around toward the end.

Really need to put the last one on my refurb, though.
