To insure or not to insure?

This is a discussion on To insure or not to insure? within the Motorola Droid X forums, part of the Motorola Android Phones category; ...that is the question. Haha. I was wondering how many of you out there have your DX insured or not. Reasons why would be great. ...

To insure or not to insure?

    ...that is the question.

Haha. I was wondering how many of you out there have your DX insured or not. Reasons why would be great.

I don't have mine insured, as the only real reasons I would need to buy a new phone would be from theft, water damage, or just breaking it. I'm pretty safe with my phone, so that rules out theft or water damage, but lately I've been thinking about just 'breaking' it. How durable is this phone? If I broke, for instance, the little piece that connects the charger, would I be able to take it to a phone repair shop, or do those even exist?

    All feedback is appreciated.

I insure my items... just not through the carrier. Try SquareTrade. They've been very good to me for the past 2 years. I've filed twice for a busted screen (iPhone) and both times were hassle-less replacement.

I've insured every phone I've had, even the dumb ones, and never needed to file a claim. That being said, it's up to you as your situation isn't like me. It's good for peace of mind.

I usually insure. No matter have careful you are, there is always that quarter-beat off your rhythm can can cost you.

I insured mine because I'm rough on my electronics. Got mine through Assurion via VZW not sure if I can return it if I need to because I'm rooted.

Even tho I haven't needed to use it, I always insure. Couple bucks a month to Verizon is worth the piece of mind.

Its always good to pay the few extra dollars for insurance just in case. I have had insurance on all of my smart phones starting with the D1 back in November '09. I have never needed to use it but I know that if any thing happens my $600 phone is covered. Murphy's law: if you remove insurance, you will eventually need it.

To me it is worth the piece of mind.

My reason not to insure is that my DroidX only cost $125. If I lose it, the real cost would be all the work I've put into customizing it. I live on a boat--my razr went into the drink, but I hated that phone, though it taught me a good lesson about open pockets. (Parts of it reappeared a year later when I was fishing in the mud for my wife's keys.)
