Motorola Photon ships with Unlocked Bootloader!
Although I'm not a sprint users, I'm getting more and more excited about the announcement of the Motorola Photon.
Shortly after the press conference there have been quite a few tech blogs that have confirmed the Photon will ship with an unlocked bootloader.
If this is true, the device shoud get some major love from the dev community.

Well, at least now we know it wasn't true.

Ok two questions yes noob with androids.
1. What does an unlocked bootloader do and what does it mean?
2. Is rooting the same as "jailbreaking" and can it be done on every android?

An unlocked bootloader allows "easy" rooting and the phone to be easily ROMed. A ROM in this case is the firmware. New firmware allows you to have increased, or at least different, functionality, options, and suchlike, as well as a possibly new look. In the case of Motorola phones, it's an easy way to remove all the bloat and Blur (often the same thing, so people who think I'm hating on Blur can go bite their own noses).
Not really, but it's a decent analogy. The reason why it's not the same is by rooting your Android device you're granting root (or administrative access) to a Linux operating environment. By jailbreaking you're merely decreasing the amount of gimping done to the phone on the basic level. Android, being much more complex in the first place, offers much more that you can do once rooted than what you can do once you jailbreak an iOS device.
