    Skype Beta Application for Android

What ever happened to the Beta version of Skype for the Android?

I downloaded a copy for my HTC Hero last year in Asia. There have been no updates and I don't see it on Market Place anymore.

The Beta version I have does not support voice or video.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

    Skype

Was Skype not sure where the other app came from.

Such a pity Skype dropped their android application.

Guess we are stuck with Fring.

I have skype on my Droid, but it only allows calls to be made over the network, so its pretty pointless. Its like getting charged twice to use the phone lol. Calling over wifi is restricted also.
I use fring usually, seems to work fine.
I'm just wondering if the Skype app would work on WIFI if ported over to a non-verizon phone, or if they made if model specific so that it wouldn't work on any phone.

    Fring

Google Fring. It's not Skype but it will allow you to use the Skype features.

Skype (pronounced [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:IPA_for_English"]/ˈskaɪp/[/ame]) is a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_software"]software application[/ame] that allows users to make [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_over_Internet_Protocol"]voice calls over the Internet[/ame]. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landlines"]landline telephones[/ame] and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_phone"]mobile phones[/ame] can be made for a fee using a debit-based user account system. Skype has also become popular for its additional features which include [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant_messaging"]instant messaging[/ame], [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_transfer"]file transfer[/ame], and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_conferencing"]video conferencing[/ame].
Skype was developed by [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estonia"]Estonian[/ame] developers [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahti_Heinla"]Ahti Heinla[/ame], Priit Kasesalu and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaan_Tallinn"]Jaan Tallinn[/ame], who had also originally developed the peer-to-peer file sharing software [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazaa"]Kazaa[/ame].[1]
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skype_Limited"]Skype Limited[/ame], the company that operates Skype, was founded in 2003 by Niklas Zennström and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janus_Friis"]Janus Friis[/ame] with headquarters in [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourg"]Luxembourg[/ame].
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EBay"]eBay[/ame] acquired [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skype_Limited"]Skype Limited[/ame] in September 2005 and in fall of 2009 sold a majority stake to an investor group.
