Install ASTRO File Manager from the market and open the .apk files with it and install
Go to Menu - Settings - Keyboard and check the htc keyboard.
Go to your messaging app and hold your finger on the input field and you'll see a popup, press the 2nd word (something with input ..) and chose the htc keyboard
    i'll try that out, thanks!

Yes it's beta and this is the unofficial android one.. not realeased by them afaik.
Swype Inc. already told MoDaCo to remove the download links of the ported(!) Windows Mobile version, not really sure about the android one but I think they don't want us to have it yet and for free.
There's a little bug when using it landscape but I just disabled the automatic switch to landscape (there's always coming an popup when going landscape anywhere, even if swype isnt on the screen)
Be fast with downloading before they tell netload to delete it^^

    I get that bug too.

How do you change input devices back to the Android keyboard?? Back through the phone's settings menu?

Its a great app and will be the one to have when its official... hopefully they build it into android!

EDIT: How do you disable auto rotation to landscape mode?

You can disable it in the display settings.
And you can change the keyboard by holding your finger in the input field when writing
