Shapewriter: The interface is pretty polished, and being able to type with one finger is nice. but the dictionary prediction isn't very accurate, having to repeatedly backspace and try to draw out the pattern is harder than just typing out the keys. Also, the keyboard takes up more than the average keyboard meaning there is less screen space.

Swype: I LOVE swype! Its much much more accurate than Shapewriter, and was sooo easy to use. but since it is only Beta testing, not being able to use it in landscape mode is a deal breaker. Anxious for it to come out on the Nexus!

Better Keyboard: I liked the keyboard and the themes, but the keyboard itself doesn't affect typing for me. The main difference is the semi T9 mode, where keys have multiple keys. Larger keys = easier typing, but also mean having to push the keys more than once to get your word.

Multi Keyboard: I got this when it first came out, and the multi-touch was horrible. I recently bought/downloaded the newest version, and its pretty nice. Still the UI is reallyyy ugly and basic looking, but the keyboard layout is PERFECT for me. But the multi-touch didn't actually work in the way you think it would. I loved the keyboard but the dictionary was horrific, and the $3.99 price made me return it within a hour.

HTC IME: Someone posted a link to the apk file for the HTC Sense keyboard, but i really didn't like it. The graphics were extremely pixelated and didn't fit the Nexus screen well. Immediately removed it.

Overall, I liked Swype and Multi Keyboard the most. They were both very good, but both had problems that I couldn't deal with on the keyboard. So I'm waiting to see what else comes out! Till then I'm just using stock keyboard.

Setting -> Language & Keyboard settings -> Make sure your keyboards have a checkmark next to them.

Then in any text field long press -> Input method -> Select your keyboard.

Have you tried any other keyboards? If so, why do you like this one more?

    Thanks.
I tried the android for a while, and I've also used Shapewriter.

I also love shapewriter - or at least the concept. I did type faster, but I also had many more errors. With normal keybaords if you are one letter off, the person can usually figure out what you meant to say - not with SW.

Better Keybaord is much more accurate. I also love the wide assortment of skins for it. Voice does work, you have to hold the mic down for a second or two. It does seem to take longer then normal, but I don't use voice so it doesn't affect me. Swiping of it left/right for different keyboards/symbols or up/down to open/close the keyboard is also nice.

I will not load Swype until it has an official release for the N1, but from my loving the form factor of SW and the great things I've heard about it, I expect it will take the place of Better Keyboard for me.

Looks like a better port of HTC IME has been released:

If it works as well as the guys in this thread is claiming, I think I am going to like this!

Well I decided to load the un-bugged version of Swype. I'm loving it. It's a ton better than ShapeWriter for sure. I've already run into one issue where I needed to see the screen while I typed a special password and had to switch back to Better Keyboard, but I think this will be my main texting keyboard now...

What do you like about Swype? Is it their swypy way of entering?

I keep hearing about this KB...What features does it have that Better Keyboard or other equivalants don't offer? Is it just another layout? I keep hearing "it's great" but haven't really seen details on what makes it different.

I haven't used other keyboards yet except for the stock one and HTC on my Hero'rized Magic. HTC IME really is quite a bit more accurate and also IMO, offers better auto correction. It simply worked better for me!

I, too, have been using Swype for about a week and have decided to use it as my main keyboard. Maybe it was the shape of my fingers, but I kept hitting the wrong keys on the standard keyboard unless I was in landscape. With Swype, as long as I get near the key I want, it registers correctly. It took a few minutes to read through the manual and get used to sliding around, but after that I just felt comfortable using it. I wish I had discovered it before paying for MobileWrite, I could have saved some money!
