    Regretting that I rooted...

Although I rooted only 6 hours ago, I'm starting to regret it. The main reasons why I wanted to root is to try out CyanogenMod, extend my battery life, make it faster and customize the UI a little more.

Now that I've rooted and installed Cyanogen, I noticed it's really not that much of a difference. It feels a lot faster though, but the battery life seems about the same. As far as customizing the UI, the farthest I got was displaying the battery percent in the notification bar. I tried changing the bar to black but it doesn't seem to be working.

Am I missing something here? Are there additional things (apps?) I need to install in order to unlock the powers of being rooted and cyanogen?

Keep in mind that I rooted using the new "1-click root" app, so if worst comes worst and I want to go back to stock and receive OTA updates and pretend nothing ever happened, is it still possible?

    Thanks!

Edit: I figured out how to change the status bar to black. Had to reboot to see it.

I don't think so. But, before flashing with Cyanogen, it asked if I wanted to backup which I did. When I go into Rom Manager, under the restore settings, there is a file there named the date and time I flashed. Is this where I would go if I wanted to go back to stock?

Sounds like you must have installed clockwork. Good move. You are on CM6 RC2?

Yup, clockwork recovery. And yes, cm6 r2.

Now after playing with it more, I'm starting to notice a difference. I downloaded Setcpu to hopefully improve the battery. Any preference on which mode to set it on? I tried powersave but it made things really choppy.

I guess my main concern is future updates. Like when 3.0 gingerbread is released, how will get it?

Also, I totally agree that this was a supernoob move. As soon as I saw the 1-click root, I couldn't resist and jumped right in.. Been contemplating for a real long time.

Well you are on the right track. Setcpu should be set to on demand. Also in the cm settings, go into performance settings and set the vm heap to 24. This will make for a smooth ride. Good job btw in installing clockwork. Just make sure to make backups frequently.

Awesome. Is it correct to say that, if I so choose, I will be able to return to stock rom and receive OTA updates?

Theoretically yes. Altho the dev community is usually pretty quick when it comes to new updates. Once I rooted, I never looked back.
