    think i've done something wrong

    phone is locked on the screen with padlock at the bottom and the X in the middle

    Did you get the recovery installed, which one and a nandroid backup done. If it doesn't change in 5 minutes pull battery, reinsert and before it pwrs up hold down vol- and pwr and see if you can get back into recovery.

    Got it back, am trying the update flash again, but with a file from that link you posted

    thanks so much guys

    assuming this means i should be able to use rom manager now to flash whatever rom i want

    Good job. Yes you can use Rom Manager/Clockwork to flash any rom for the N1 now.

    Just remember to *Always* make a Nandroid Backup before flashing Anything.

    ta for all the help, now which ROM is best to go for

    CM6 seems to be the most widely used but i think i might go for one of the desire ones

    ROM is from your link to XDA FRG83 Stockbar v1.2

    Recovery is recovery-RA-nexus-v1.5.3
