I know there will be lots of opinions here, but the best way to optimize power consumption is with an app like SetCPU.

There is no ROM that knows how you want to use your phone. The more performance that you're willing to give up, the longer your battery will last. You have to make that decision.

Not true. It heavily depends on what kernel you using too.
Bud760 lets say in two hour, sending 50 messages and not making any calls or apps, how far does your battery go down.(starting at 100%)

Please tell me how the kernel is "optimized" so that CPU frequency is not the main issue.

    The main power burners are:
    1) The display
    2) The CPU
    3) The radios (cellular, Wi-Fi, bluetooth, GPS)

The main way the some of the kernels "optimize" power is to lower the CPU voltage or frequency.

However, lowering the voltage can also lead to instability.

I don't know of any way that the kernel can "optimize" the radios. The only real help there is to turn things off.

There are tons of subjective evaluations of "power savings" out there, but I'd like to see some objective data.

Ok, disregarding Beer Goggles. Has anyone found MIUI to be the fastest and most power saving rom.

Thanks for ignoring all of my valid points.

It was noted. What do you think the best kernel is?

I use Enomther's ROM and love it! Great battery life. I typically get 3 days before needing to recharge.

Don't expect your smartphone to last long using it that much.
in 2 hours? 50 msgs mine would go down by 20% screen timeout 15 seconds. now I'm on Rods Miuimod with the included kernel by pershoot. I use SetCPU. Rods miuimod and I think the regular miui have power saving mode along with setcpu saves my battery life.

Let's say you're using CM6 with stock kernel and setcpu would your battery last all day with that many msgs?

Galloway would Enoms rom last a day with TheMainMans heavy usage?
