gingerbread keyboard
Saw this today over at the Cyanogen mod forums, thought ya'll might like it, seems way better than the stock android keyboard on my N1 after only 20 minutes with it.
it's supposedly the gingerbread keyboard and you can install it on any 2.2 (froyo) rooted android device.

Is there a version of this for non-rooted phones?

Sorry, but not that I've seen...
You need to install library files, and the keyboard apk installs to /system. I could possibly update the zip to install to data, but you'd still need a custom recovery to flash non-Google signed zips...

I forgot to backup my stock keyboard so I had to unpack CM6 and take the LatinIME.apk from there.
You can find it in System/app/ just in case anyone was wondering
.
The keyboard is awesome.....except auto correction doesnt work.

When restoring, you should also restore linjni_latinime.so to /system/lib
Auto correct has been fixed on the newer xda versions...

Yeah it worked perfectly for me. I didn't even bother to check the comments, but I haven't had any issues and so far I'm really enjoying the new keyboard.
Not sure if it's relevant but I'm on CM6.1 RC1 because I'm having trouble with the stable release.
