2.2 battery drain
Hi, I updated my friends stock N1 from 2.1 to 2.2 and ever since his battery life has been awful. Like 3 hours unplugged on standby left him at 77%
Battery useage is saying cell standby and system idle are the problem, any ideas?
Would reruning the 2.2 update fix it maybe?

Since upgrading to Froyo I've found battery life has improved. If he's having that much problems with Froyo tell him to go back to 2.1 and wait for Google to release the official OTA release. I've had no issues though.
is it safe to just run the 2.1 update over 2.2?
if so where can I find it?

I did upgrade to 2.2 manually and the battery life has been horrible. Any idea how to downgrade back to 2.1 so I can wait for the official upgrade from google?
My battery also has been horrible. I already switch between 3 batteries, now I do it more frequently.
check the settings once again to see if update has changed settings.

No problems with battery on 2.2 here.
It may be because of froyo. battery is known to be a glitch with new roms.
it happened to me a few times when i updated to 2.2.
my battery would be gone in about 4 hours with little use. The OTA update for 2.2 should fix this. so its your choice. if the 2.2 features outweigh the battery loss stay on 2.2 but if its a problem downgrade until the OTA comes.
I don't think that'll work, since the 2.1-update1 is just a patch meant to be applied over an existing 2.1 system.

Sounds like you can get the full stock shipping image (build ERD79, for the T-Mobile 3G radio version) file from androidtechnical.info, which several have reported the stock locked bootloader will allow to be flashed. Then you can get the 2.1-update1 to ERE27 over the air and be back on the latest official release.
Probably want to back everything up beforehand. Unlike an upgrade, this might well wipe everything out since it's a full image file restore. And it looks like the instructions advise wiping out the phone beforehand anyway.
I've not tried this myself, but there are several folks reporting in that thread that it worked for them with stock phones without having to unlock the bootloader (and so keep their warranty).
