    Wi-Fi On/Off??????

What exactly is the Wi-Fi used for? I read that if kept on constantly, the battery life of the N1 would be greatly reduced. Is it used strictly for browsing the net or will it effect my emails & texting as well? Thanks!!

Wifi is used to connect to the Internet. So anything that would need Internet would use it.

Texting is NOT Internet based. It uses cellular signaling space (long story, but it's NOT Internet).

emails are not "texting", that is SMS

emails are Internet, which will go over 3G/EDGE if Wifi is off.

Ok so if I don't plan on using the net I can uncheck the Wi-Fi option to save battery life or should I just leave it checked all the time?

Certainly turn it off if you aren't going to use it and you'll save power. I use it all the time since it saves using up my precious cell data limit.

There are a lot of thing that will use the Internet whether you realize it or not. Examples:

    Address book sync
    Calendar sync
    Piscasa sync
    Gmail sync
    Anything in Android Market
    News and Weather widget
    Etc.

You can also use apps like Juice Defender to Control your Data Connection when not in use for better battery life. Its in the Market.
