How do I disable the trackball from continuously flashing?

I just had my N1 replaced after I shattered the screen on my first one. On the new one, whenever I receive an email or text, the trackball continuously flashes until I open the text or email.

I have looked through settings and cannot figure out how to set the trackball to only flash 1 time when a new text or email arrives.

Can someone please clue me in?

you can't say how many times to flash, only turn it off and on. settings -> display
Optional programs will provide you with the ability to make more adjustments tho.

    Are you sure?

I'm almost positive I had this issue with my old one and I was able to set it so it only flashed 1 time when something new arrived.

Is it possible to eliminate the trackball from lighting up at all?

There is a way to turn it off.

Go to Settings, Sound, then check off Pulse Notification Light.

Not sure why it's in the Sound section, but it's there.

Well for text messages, go to the program that handles them and check the settings.

Handcent allows changing these things. I don't remember about the built-in messaging app.

AhmedEltawil's answer below explains how to set the pulse notification light to only flash once.

When you disable "pulse notification light" in settings -> Sound, it does not completely disable the light from pulsing. It just sets it to only pulse 1 time for new emails/texts.

Thanks!! This solves my original problem. Now the light pulses 1 time for new messages.
