Are you rooted, didn't see you mention that.
If not rooted, it is my understanding they are put to the sd card into a special folder, but you can't see them. They still run, just off the card. Not sure if that is the same for rooted phones.
Is that your problem, or are they all gone on phone to because you wiped and had no apps backup like Titanium Backed if rooted or MyBackUp Pro for non-rooted users. You need one of them and back up your sd card before wiping, not necessarily everytime, but enough to keep the bu up to date.
Do you have a phone backup, if rooted, that you can restore from. If not I guess you have to manually reinstall. Sorry.
One of the advantages of rooting is full image backups.
