    How to tell screen type when screen is faulty

    I dropped my N1 and since then the screen slowly fills with random green dots after power-on. I was told that a screen replacement was necessary, and I'm planning to order it from eBay. How do I tell whether I had an AMOLED or SLCD screen? I have disassembled the phone, and here are the serial numbers (if they're of any help).

    IMEI: 354957032682281
    S/N: HT04TP800077
    P/N: 99HKE008-00

    The display itself has the following on it:
    AMS369FG03 AEEAH21
    JA100107090
    There's also a sticker on the back of the screen:
    S/N: 2LWA1010705083
    P/N: 60H00287-00P

    I tried Googling it, but all I found was how to tell the type of working displays.

    I am the second owner of the phone (I bought it Jul 2011), therefore I don't know when was it manufactured or what its original purchase date is.

    May be other ways, but can you boot into bootloader

    hold down pwr and trackball--then the bootloader screen will come up

    look at top of screen, if time before it fills up for a MICROP(xxxx)

    0b15 is AMOLED. 0c15 is SLCD...that is what you will see btw the parentheses above

    Oh, that's right! Hmm, it really depends on how long it takes for the dots to show up.. But your method works too, just tried it on my nexus one. I never noticed that you could check your screen type like that! I always used the Terminal Emulator method.

    Thank you for your answer. The problem is that only dots are displayed, nothing else. Any method that requires using the phone or looking at its screen is no good.

    bummer

    i don't have any other ideas--sorry

    if you were rooted and had android sdk setup, you may have done it thru adb shell instead of terminal emulator

    I'm guessing you used this phone before it broke... can you tell me if the blacks were very black, or were they kinda blue-ish? And can you also tell me if the reds and blues and greens were very saturated?

    Solution found.

    (how to tell whether screen is AMOLED or SLCD)

    Look at the backside of the screen and find the P/N number on the sticker.

    P/N 60H00443-03P ---> SLCD (Sony)
    P/N 60H00287-00P ---> AMOLED (Samsung)

    So mine is AMOLED. Thanks for the answers though.
