    Is there anyway to get the video to take up the full screen? The width of the video is set to 800 but there are still black bars on both sides of the video.

    I'm not sure, but I bet the video is full screen (without black borders) when it has the same aspect ratio as your Nexus One screen (800/480=1,6666...).

    This means that if you divide the width of your video by the height of your video, you should have 1,666...

    Most of the time, this will not be the case so you'll need to make it a little less wide or high by cropping it.

    To know the ideal width, use this formula:

    Code:
    OW = (800/480) * IH

    Where:
    input video width = IW
    input video height = IH
    output video width = OW
    output video height = same as input video height (IH)
    So, if your input video is 350px high, you should crop it so that the width is:
    Code:
    OW = (800/480) * IH = (800/480) * 350px = 583px
    In Handbrake, make sure the width/height under "Display" is what you expected. If width/height = 1,666..., your video will be displayed full screen, without black borders !

    In my opinion, the best one-size-fits-all configuration is to just leave the original video size like it is (as long as it's less than or equal to 800px wide) as described in the how-to. Sure, you can fiddle with all the settings, but I think the convenience of not having to calculate aspect ratio's and cropping is more important than whether or not there are black borders.

    You can see this on the main HandBrake screen. When you open a video, it will show many details about it. Among them are the width (in pixels) and the height (in pixels).
