    Phone credit constantly leaking...?

    Hello guys,

I need a bit of an insight...

I've noticed yesterday that my phone is constantly eating my phone credit (money) bit by bit for the whole day.

Now I'm not a newbie in technology, but just couldn't stop it.

It ate it to the end!

I did try of course- Uninstalled the latest apps I've installed. Killing ALL the running services, disabling 3G network, the bastard just wouldn't stop.

I guess it's due some online update that I cannot see.

I have the latest firmware, and all the apps are up to date.

I wasn't online and all the apps and updates were closed. I wasn't even using the damn thing except to check my phone credit which was constantly less and less.

It was like a 'Phone from the Elm Street' thing!

    What could it be?

    I just beats me!

    Any ides?

    Thanks!

A few things to look at...

    1) Do you have News & weather app enabled?

    2) Is your GPS enabled?

    3) Are there any market apps on your phone requiring GPS to work?

These would cause you to use data in the background.

Hey Bishop, thanx for the reply:

I do have weather and news widget enabled, but i doubt it would take down the data all the time constanly...?

I turned off the GPS and all the apps so it couln't be that.

Turned off the 'background apps data sync' too.

I'm gonna try taking off the weather widget.

The real weird thing is that when I came home, where I have wireless internet, the phone was online (wireless) and the credit was still going down...

    Jesus!!!

By the default nature of the phone it continues to transmit data even if you turn all things off (bar airplane mode). I noticed that when I first got mine. No matter what you turn off, it will still transmit. Try the app "NetCounter" to see if you can trace when you are transmitting. If you can narrow down when it is transmitting maybe you can pinpoint what is transmitting.

    Phone's still squeezing my lemons!

I disabled automatic updates of weather and news widget.

Just bought some credit (a little bit this time, it's not gonna trick me twice!) and it ate right through it in minutes!

The only things when something similar was happening, is when I bought it and it automatically downloaded the operating system update.

However, that's not the case now.

I had 'Net Sentry' app, it shows the 3G traffic, not in too much details though. It is increasing. I've installed now 'NetCounter', it shows 1Mb 3G download today and 4Mb sent! That's how much credit is had. Bastard.

Now it's on wireless and there's no traffic change!

It seems that some traffic occurs only through 2G/3G. Why?

A bit of a mystery for me...

This is why the N1 and Droids for that matter should only have unlimited data...

They are very, very data hungry.

    ???

I have had my N1 for over a week now and my $25 t-mobile prepaid sim credit has only gone down about $0.40 for the two test calls I made (I don't use the phone as a phone very often, and I only use wifi for browsing and apps downloads). I set up the phone to only use 2G (not sure if that makes a diff) and I turned off the ability to receive/send text messages from the account menu on the t-mobile site. I figured some spammer might drain my account with texting.

So how in the world is your account going down if you are making no calls???

I did. Thank you, it might work.

What I want to know is, why is the damn thing eating my money all the time!

Not to cure the symptoms of disease, but the root of it, so to speak
