    T-Mobile Web2go 3g speed.

I just got my Nexus One yesterday. I'm a little discouraged by the speed in 3g. I have the $9.99 web2go, and yes, I made the changes in apn for it to be in 3g. I have 3 - 4 bars of 3g. I'm only getting 500 Kbps (.5 Mb/s). Is this normal? Thanks for the help.

    PS: I love the phone.

the $10.00 plan is the reason why its not up to par. you will need the proper data plan on the account for it to work. otherwise eventually you will receive the "upsell" message and be forced to get the proper data plan and android feature on account

I just switched from a Blackberry Curve 8900 to the N1.

Question - do I need to visit a T-Mobile store and get a "3G" SIM card?

no the sim card isn't what makes you able to have 3g, its the phone capabilities to detect it

Thanks, I wasn't sure if there was something different about the SIM cards that are labeled 3G.

Also ensure your APN is correct for 3G smart-phones which should be "epc.tmobile.com". This of course should be automatically set when you lace a sim card in the phone no matter the carrier.

I thought I have to use internet2.voicestream.com for the web2go to work. So, 500 Kbps is about right for web2go 3g? I guess I'll have to fork out $25 for the android data plan. Or maybe I can live with it until they detect me.

PS: yep, I need to use internet2.voicestream.com for web2go to work.

No, you don't need a new sim card. You just need to call up T-mobile, and tell them you want to add web2go to your plan. And tell them you have a non-smartphone. Then follow this instruction. http://androidcommunity.com/forums/285644-post1.html
