This should be moved to the 'Development & Hacking' thread... And... Yes, it voids your warranty, apart from that, I don't really know much about the rooting scene...

Do you have to flash it with the cynangen rom or can you leave it alone after it has been rooted. I just want to root it at the moment(might flash rom later) for the htc sense keyboard.
    thanks,
    Jason

rooting gives you admin rights. so yeah you can keep the stock rom on it or do what ever you want from there.

Regarding the void warranty thing, can you not just back the original OS if you need to send it in for warranty?

Thinking about rooting but not if there's no 'restore to factory' in case something happens.

rooting it doesn't break warranty. unlocking the boot loader does, it's actually a step before gaining admin rights. When you boot up your phone it will have the unlock symbol which means your warranty through google is no good.

A couple ways around it though. Get insurance through square trade which costs <$5 a month, that takes care of that issue. Before you flash your new rom you make a back up of the factory one, and always back up before flashing new roms period and if the rom does get screwed up and you can't boot you just flash the previous rom back and your good. it's just like doing a factory reset.
