1st gen iPhone to N1 Question

    I've got a question I someone wouldn't mind answering.

I just ordered my at&t version and currently have a first gen iphone. However, the sim card has the 3g logo on it. Would I still have to take it into at&t to change my data plan to the $30/month?

Yes, you will have to get the smartphone data plan.

You don't need to take it to AT&T. Just call them and ask them to cancel your iphone plan and get on the regular smart phone plan. You can just use the same sim card.

I just did this today. Before, I had the iphone plan ($30) and unlimited text plan ($20). By cancelling the iphone plan, i get unlimited data AND unlimited text for $30, saving me $20 for the separate texting plan.

First gen iPhone did not use 3G. They were simply not capable of receiving 3G.

You most likely paid $20 for EDGE.
Cancel the EDGE plan for iPhone and get unlimited 3G (if you can for $15).

You probably got the family plan $10 for data and $20 for unlimited SMS.

Since I'm currently doing month to month, I wonder if I will be able to change it without having to renew my contract.

Hmm I don't think so. Here is a screen shot of my att account's feature settings.

So is everything working okay for you on that $30 plan? I talked to a rep and he said because it's an Android OS I would have to stay on the $50 Smartphone plan.

So far everything is working fine. I didn't tell them that I was using an android device and they didn't ask. The guy on the phone was very nice, so I guess it depends on who you talk to too. I simply said I'd like to cancel my iphone plan since I no longer use it and that I'd like to be able to chose my own data plan online, he said np and did it for me.
