    OS upgrades / re-installs?

    Hi All

Can some of you nexus owners let me know what happens with OS upgrades? Does the nexus run a vanilla Android and do I have full control over the OS? Or do you have to wait for Google to modify / adapt Android for the Nexus (in the same way as HTC owners with Sense UI have to wait for HTC)?

I am a developer and want to be able to wipe it, re-install different versions, generally not be tied or restricted etc - am I free to do that with a Nexus?

    Thanks!

Yes it runs vanilla aka the Google Experience.

OS upgrades come as an OTA unless you root...

You must Root the phone to have full control. Its extremely easy but it will void the warranty. This forum offers great info on rooting. Try using the search button to find it if your interested.

Once rooted you can install any rom you like

    [ROM] CM11 Nightlies

You can install the 'official' leaked updates without being root though, as they are signed with release keys.

As you want to reinstall lots of different versions, then you need to unlock the bootloader, which is a 1 line command in Windows/Linux/OSX

    Thanks guys..

Just out of interest, can I install the SenseUI version that runs on the Desire? Presumably, I can run straight Android on the Desire too - in which case, is the Nexus 1 worth the extra cost?

There is a Desire rom that uses SenseUI for the Nexus One that is still in Alpha Testing. I'm not sure if you can turn Sense off on the Desire but I wouldnt be surprised if you could.
