Unlocked??????

This is a discussion on Unlocked?????? within the Nexus One forums, part of the Google Phones category; If the N1 is supposed to be "Unlocked", why is there carrier specific N1 phones now? I don't get it. Sorry if this question was ...

    Unlocked??????

    If the N1 is supposed to be "Unlocked", why is there carrier specific N1 phones now? I don't get it.

    The 4 major carriers in the U.S. operate their 3g networks on different radio frequencies. So a Nexus One that you buy will only have one specific radio antenna for one specific carrier's 3g signal (although you can use the t-mobile and att version on both networks, but you can only get 3g on one specific carrier.)
