    Can this be done?

    Hello!

Sorry i wasn't able to put up what "this" meant in the title. I don't really know what I'm about to described is called.

Well, my friend has a Sony Ericsson W995 and he has told me he is able to use his home internet on his mobile phone. Its not Wi-Fi though, what he means is when his on the streets (with no wi-fi in range) and connects to 3G (mobile data) the interent he is using is actually from his home internet.

I know this seems kinda weird (and very useful!) but is there a way to do this?

I've managed to get a few steps from my friend, but since his phone is a complete different brand and config, i have to see what the equivalent is for my Nexus.

So his steps so far include:
    * connecting his phone to his pc via USB.
    * run the sony ericsson pc suite
    * select connect to internet (which allows the phone to use the home network now NOT wif-fi)
    * Save the setting made by this connection
    * Replace original mobile data setting with this setting
    * remove phone and it should work.

So going by the steps, I guess i need to find a PC suite for Nexus one that is able to let the phone connect to the home network? Is there one?

    Thanks

My Winmo phones could do this too...the N1, to my knowledge, cannot do this (tap a lan connection from usb hub).

Oh... thats gonna cop a laugh from my SE using friend...

What about that reverse tethering HOW TO? What does that do? I understood normal tethering which is:

Nexus one (mobile internet) > USB > Laptop (laptop uses mobile internet)

    So if its reverse its?:

Laptop (Cable internet)> Wireless (sending cable internet)> Nexus one...

But we can't save wireless settings as mobile internet settings? =( PITY...

That's wifi...accomplished by turning the lappie into a wifi router/hotspot.

You want to use your Nexus One as a USB Phone sometimes and as a cell phone at other times?

I'm not sure I understand this because you would need something on the PC to act like a phone. Is he using VOIP on the PC?

Certainly you have have the nexus one work on VOIP using fring and a sip provider, but that doesn't sound like what your friend is doing.

I looked around on XDA Developers and didn't see anything.

    Hello again!

Well I still have a Sony Ericsson phone lying around, could I perhaps try his method, and then copy down the settings from that phone and manually type it into my Nexus?

Or is that not possible? I'm thinking to simply...
