Don't get me wrong, I love my Nexus One, but I think it's a little much saying that a software update for Android will steal thunder from the release of a brand new iphone. That release is going to be super major for Apple and the phone is going to ride enormous waves of hype when it comes out. Most people are not into phones like we are and will probably have no idea about the Android software update. The iphone is so ubiquitous at this point, I'm not sure anything short of revolutionary is going to steal its thunder. If that's what Google is waiting for, I think its as big a miscalculation as selling the N1 only online.
new rumors state the iPhone having:
    960x640 res
    2 cameras
    1gig (or close) processor
    512 RAM
1/3 thinner phone. screen is upgraded, not AMOLED, not sure what it was.
lots of other goodies. Again, rumors, but rumors supposedly from the manufacture of the iPhone. we will see the actual specs when its officially released, but I would assume that getting FROYO out and getting HEAVY press release on how fast it is a MONTH prior to the iPhone announcement would be MUCH smarter than using a software update to 'compete' or 'steal thunder' as stated prior

I don't think any news type websites have been talking about the release of froyo during I/O. They've all been correctly reporting that froyo would be announced and/or presented. Just like the iPad was announced and presented 2 months before it was available to buy.
o- Nexus One running CyanogenMod 6.0
o- Samsung Galaxy Tab running stock Froyo (update: running Gingerbread and virtually useless)

What hype? Google never said a thing. Just stupid bloggers making things up. Plus, June is only a few days away. I think we'll be lucky if it is June, but it could happen.

Did anyone notice this on the WebM blog?

Something else to keep us happy speculating about release dates

“When will other Google products support WebM and VP8?

“WebM support in Android is expected in the Gingerbread release (currently planned for Q4, 2010). We expect many other Google products to adopt WebM and VP8 as they prioritize it with their other product requirements. Keep an eye on the WebM blog for announcements”

Wow I don't even want to think what goodies Gingerbread could bring...

Google to Apple - "Run, Run, as fast as you can...you can't catch me! I'm the Gingerbread Man!"
Come here little sheep; I have a nice juicy apple for you!

How about some southern flair and some Huckleberry Pie.
