Very true that Linux doesn't kill key programs that the user has/is running however the services that are run automatically for updates, checks and restores ect.. can be killed when they are of no use. this is the same in for android, the full apps are not being started on startup just services that must me in place for the app to function or to speed up functionality like the weather checker grabbing information so when the user wants to know the weather they do not need to wait or the market checking in to the market database for updates. all in all what people are seeing are services that have to be run to ensure integrity and functionality, with people who kill services and apps you often see a list of complaints about poor start-up or slowdowns and it is all because if you kill a service it comes back next time and has to run right off the bat as a posed to running shortly after a clean boot, i would also like for someone experiencing problems to post running apps after a clean boot here so that they can be compared with someone having no problems like me?

I have to admit when I first used Android I got caught up in the "task manager" FUD. That lasted about a week and I realized the OS knows what it's doing... so I stopped.

I'm not too sure how many people will get this reference but here it goes... "Who knows what evil lurks... The OS knows!"
