These instructions / links worked for me, too. I was running a manually updated Nexus One with FRF72, and I had to downgrade to FRF50 before flashing the FRF83.

    I'm now on FRF83!

    Thank You

Followed your instructions and upgraded to Froyo and FRF83 first thing this morning before breakfast. Simple, easy and straightforward thanks to your step by step guide.
    Another happy bunny

If you're rooted (like I am), you'd probably have a nandroid backup of FRF50 before you put on 72. I simply restored that backup.

Actually, I did that before because I realized that after going to FRF72, I lost root!

Which brings me to my question:

Does this upgrade also make you lose root?

And for those of you who have upgraded, do you experience any difference? (or know what's meant to be the difference?)

    Help me out PLEASE

    I got a stock N1 rooted... ERE27 build.

I'm simply trying to get to the OTA version now out. No matter what update.zip I load I get some error, usually the "system 7" error.

I have noticed another funny thing, when I hit the bootloader I get a random bunch of errors real quick that then clear, something about passing......

Is that the reason they're failing? I don't know how to fix that if so.

My recovery image is stock I believe, all I did was unlock+root.

What in the world am I doing wrong?

    -Greg

^ oh..... and do I need to do a wipe prior to the update? I wouldn't expect so.

I'm hoping my bootloader isn't jacked up or something due to that strange list of errors I get on the 3 skateboarder screen.

I was on ERE27, and was getting the same error. I ultimately had to update to the FRF50, then to the FRF72, and now today....I'm on FRF83. Working beautifully.

I wish I could get to even FRF50!!!! I can't get any to work. By chance do you know exactly what you did to make it all work? I feel I'm missing something.

Yes, first I retrieved the FRF50 file and FRF72 files. I renamed the FRF50 to "Update" (not Update.zip). I connected my N1 to my PC, and "Mounted" the SD card. Upon doing so, I copied/pasted from the PC to the N1. Once complete, I did the following:

    1. Power down your Nexus One
    2. Hold down the “Volume Down” button as you power the phone back on.
    3. A screen should appear showing your phone’s system searching for various files. Scroll down to “recovery” and press the “Power” button.
    4. When you see the triangle with an exclamation point symbol, press the “Power” and “Volume Up” buttons at the same time.
    5. From the menu that appears, select “Apply sdcard:update.zip.”
    6. When the screen displays “Install from sdcard complete” select “reboot system now” and wait for the phone to power back up.

That should work. If it does, proceed to FRF72 (& ultimately FRF83) using the same process.
