I received an email yesterday from HTC saying they had received the phone and nothing more. Today I received an email stating they had diagnosed repairs and it was ready for approval. I was quoted $55 originally last week for the repair. The actual cost in the email came to $115. If I were to disapprove the repair, it still would have cost $29 in labor/shipping fees.
I am not happy about the discrepancy in price, and how long its taken so far (I shipped it on Thursday- it is now Tuesday.) HTC customer service made it sound like this would be a 3-4 day process max. when I spoke to them last week. Obviously we've gone past that already and I dont even have the phone back yet.
$55 seems ridiculously low...it's not consistent with what has been reported here, but the $115 is more typical. I wonder if the $55 was for the part, or the hourly labor rate. The $29 inspection/shipping fee is quite low for the industry as well...having priced initial inspection for broken LCD glass on my camera.

edit: oh..the expected turnaround time on my camera? 6 to 8 weeks!
Actually there's a simple explanation to the price. If the outer screen, which is the touch screen is cracked, that's only $55. If the inner screen (the LCD) or both screens are cracked , then it's $115. When they diagnosed your phone, they must have seen that the LCD was cracked or both screen were cracked.

As far as the timing, still haven't heard. Still waiting to hear back.

FedEx picked up mine yesterday, and I tracked the shipment. It arrived in Markham Ontario this morning.

What's in Markham Ontario? Does HTC have a repair center in Canada?

I just shipped mine this afternoon. I think Markham is their relay station and it gets sent to the states for repair. That's what I vaguely remember the CSR telling me.

Hmm interesting, probably to avoid a whole bunch of customs clearance hassel.

I've got one into them as well I'm waiting to come back. The gold contacts on the bottom of the phone was not connecting / charging with two seperate desktop docks. A whole 2 days old to boot...

    No so fast muchacho.

I received my email to pay back on Tuesday mid-morning and I paid promptly. HTC said they had received my payment (or whatever equivalanet it says) through Tuesday AND Wednesday. Only until mid-day today did it say HTC was repairing my phone.

Today marked one week since I had sent in my phone. At this slow rate, I am expecting my phone to maybe come in on Tuesday or so.

Got my Nexus One on Tuesday and it didn't work. Stuck in a boot loop right outta the box. FedEx picked it up yesterday (Wednesday) and I checked just now (Thursday) and it was delivered to Markham.

Hopefully I get my replacement asap. Friday would be ideal but I realize that's unrealistic. Here's hoping it's Monday.

Just talked to an HTC CSR, and apparently the phones that get sent to Markham all get sent across the border to HTC at once, every Friday. They would *just* get my phone today

Looks like I'm slumming it with my HTC Diamond for a while yet. Can't believe how much I miss the N1 already... Got really used to it..

    3 Days... Uh huh, right....

Edit: If you're in Canada, I guess it's better to send the phone in on a Wednesday or thursday. Sending on Monday is just 2-3 days extra without your phone.

    UPDATE:

HTC updated my repair tracker to "service complete" today (Monday). There is no mention of a fedex tracking number (yet.) The repair tracker had stated it was being repaired since Thursday. By the time I get it back, it will be close to 2 weeks for the whole process.
