Other phones will make fun of your virgin phone. Then your virgin phone will feel ugly and fat. It will have self esteem issues and start to hang around iPhones. Then it will end up in a dark drawer next to a dirty iPod and a whole lot of regrets. Is this want you want WERA!!
For the love of God and your Nexus One. Root it!!!:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

My question is, would there be any advantage to rooting without flashing a custom rom? if i'm thinking right on this, it will give me superuser permission if i just use superboot - but what does that mean? what extra control will just having that give me?

I know what you lot are going to say - why not try the custom roms anyway and flash back to stock when gingerbread is released? Let's just say I want to go slowly with the custom rom thingy, I know once i get into it i'll be a rom junkie soon enough! i just want to know if it is worth rooting without flashing custom roms at present.

appreciate any advice on the matter
if you dont want to install a custom rom, you can just use the stock froyo and d/l some root only apps from the market, such as setcpu..

If you want to keep it pretty close to stock but using a custom ROM, I would suggest you try out MoDaCo's Custom ROM (r21) found here: 02/Jul r21 - MoDaCo Custom ROM for Nexus One with Online Kitchen - Froyo FRF91 - Android @ MoDaCo
I found it to be a nice transition into the custom ROMs and you'd be starting with a perfectly stable one. As you get more familiar with the nandroid process and flashing you can then try others like Enomther or Cyanogen or Leo, etc...

I've used r21 and still have it as a backup. Is stable and has gapps included. Was my first rom, CM6 latest nightly has more tweaks, but you have to flash gapps separate.
