I would turn on your 3G just in case it does need it.
I haven't received my OTA notification yet, I have done the check-in code many times and still no update.
After the last update and it taking me several tries to get the button sequence right, I am going to wait for this to come in normally. Plus, my phone was never quite right after the last update (I have done three wipe and restores since the last manual update).

I believe you need EDGE or 3G connection, but wifi CAN be active. I got the last update while I was connected to wifi, but within strong EDGE reach.

I have a stock N1. I am rather new to Android. I got the OTA announcement. Only two things I am concerned about:

    1. losing t-mo tethering in US.
    2. some other problem causing phone to no longer work.

I saw one message on this forum where somebody said they weren't going to apply this patch. How do I tell the system to stop reminding me. This is extremely annoying, everytime I turn it on, I get a large modal dialog asking me to update now or later. Worst, when my battery was 50%, it gave me the same message, but said it wouldn't install because of low battery life (I understand this is probably a good thing). But, I wish it would get out of the way.

So, does anybody know how to tell it to stop asking me to upgrade?

    Cheers

I know this is an old post but he deserves to have his question answered anyway.

When you go to the unlock screen if you see a lock that is unlocked then your bootloader is unlocked there for your warranty is void if not you are good . Although your warranty could be void for other reasons such as water indicator has gone off or the phone has been tampered with hardware wise.

I've seen a couple of statements about "receiving an OTA notice". What, is this? I know what OTA is. I have received a few OTA updates, and either didn't notice it (was sleeping) or just received & downloaded. I get the impression y'all may be speaking of some advance communication that it's coming. Details please.
