When Trapster first was announced 2 years + ago the buzz was huge. iPhone users flaunted this mobile app every chance they could.
When the Android version was released last year, I immediately searched it out and installed. But I quickly found out that the .25 mile alert setting did not work; not at all, it was silent. The next setting, .5 miles worked fine but real world urban driving made this setting fail. There sometimes were several red light cameras or speed traps within a half mile radius making alerts irrelevant.
I found a discussion/feedback forum for Trapster at: Community-powered support for Trapster and soon found that many other Android users were also complaining about the .25 mile setting not working.
I joined in the discussion and posted and reposted at regular intervals expressing the interest for Trapster to work for Android users.
Well today I got a direct reply from a rep at Trapster offering me a trial for the new BETA build for Android that purportedly fixes the issue: web1.trapster.com/trapsterbeta.apk
Installed and running, but will need a few days to test in real world urban conditions. So far it looks good. Nice interface (as before) with as few new features. The utility to set alert distance is now a slider. It defaults to .3 miles, which looks to be the smallest distance now, instead of .25 miles as before.
FYI - GPS needs to be left on. The app needs to run in the background while driving, so you'll need to manually turn if off when not driving to conserve resources.
Also, it now can be moved to SD card!

So far the beta build works well.
Pros: Added new individual settings for the alerts. More alerts. More intuitive Report interface.
Cons: FC occasionally. A couple soft buttons not clearly defined. Glitchy GPS location.
