Well you could wait till after gingerbread that would give you time to read up on rooting and you will not want to go back to stock to get gingerbread in a week or so.
I'm also waiting for GB before Rooting it. Till then may be try out: How to Install Apps to the SD Card by Default on Android 2.2 Froyo | larsa | Androinica
Tx for the reading

Hi Ipeck. So did you root or how did you upgrade? I want to know. As i have the same problem. Appreciate your reply.
I rooted my 2.2 with universal androot and z4 root. Very easy (one click root). After a while I flashed Gingerbread with passimg method, took me about 5 mins. With the default system app 2 sd I don't need to root anymore.
@Ipeck
Can you please give me detailed info how to do the above steps. I am newbee here.
Thanks.
Go to shipped-roms. Download the updates to get you to 2.3.3. Then you can use gingerbreak app (found on xda forums) to root gingerbread. (Its a one click root app) Dont take the 2.3.4 update or you will lose root.
