I would assume a sort of fix is possible for the axis issue, using some sort of predictive algorithm. Basically, how often are people likely to move two fingers to the exact same axis point, then start moving in the opposite direction? Surely when that condition happens, the phone can predict that the fingers are really still moving in the original direction...?
