    OK, I've just rooted the stock image I'd just switched to.
    Worked pretty good, but I had to run the exploit twice before it worked.

    I made a few changes to the write up, based on some of the comments you made.
    Rather than post it again, I'm gonna make a write up on a clean thread...

    sounds like you are not rooted then Have a look at my start to finish guide above and see if there is anything that has been missed.

    it looks like the only thing i may have wrong is java is rooted thru c:\windows

    not the second time. But superUser popped up in my app draw after that.

    OK, let's confirm...
    Download a Terminal Emulator app from the market. Run the app, and type in "su".
    The Superuser app should popup, asking if you want to grant permission to the Terminal Emulator...

    It just force closed at first so I deleted and downloaded again. I downloaded Titanium Backup which was granted access. Then Terminal Emulator opened and granted access!
