    Great!

You flash Tom's in Recovery. Just put the zip on the root of your SD card and ALWAYS make a Nandroid backup before flashing Anything.

Also, Make sure your Radio is compatible with the Rom you wish to Flash

I guess I want cyanagen 6.1 its a good start. I'm very interested in modaca, gingerbread ROM and especially miui, but I'm gonna go with the basics to start. So where do I find the appropriate radio?

You probably won't need one, but if you decide you want to try, do it very carefully, and always check the md5 of the file.
I use mand5 from the market...

Ok well I feel like the noob by asking these questions but what is Tom's ROM and how could you get arrested for flashing it I thought Google allowed us to flash ROMs and it was completely legal: confused: and he other thing is what is an md5 exactly I have never flashed a radio so I'm not sure what md5 is.

Man just when you think you have this stuff down something new pops up and confuses you again :D the wonderful world of rooting

He meant flash Rom's not Tom's

md5 is a long number that when you dl rom you can open it with Astro or some other program that will show you the accompaning md5 number. You then compare that number to the md5 number listed along with the rom you dl'd. They are usually posted somewhere on the op page or dl link. Numbers must match to assure you had a good dl. I never really use them. Nandroids take care of me.

Ok well fail on my part on the Tom's thing I thought it was a ROM

And thanks for the md4 thing although I don't think a nandroid will save you if it's a radio your flashing.
