I have laptop without connection to wifi. Nexus one with connection to wifi. And good wifi signal in apartment. Is it possible to get internet on computer through the phone with this free wifi? And if yes what shall i do?

Probably this thread must be in FAQ and howto but i couldn't create it there.

Connect the Phone to Wifi, then enable USB Tethering on the phone and connect it up, your computer should see it as a wired connection and let you access the internet

I think you downloaded a file that you simply don't need! Go to Settings>Wireless & Networks>Tethering & Portable hotspot (with the USB cable plugged in), and then enable USB tethering checkbox. That should be all you need to do! No external files are needed!

Currently USB connected tethering enabled internet on laptop is absent. Desperately.

Hmmm....I've got nothing else to offer. I did just what I described for most of the day yesterday, and it worked great. In fact, my laptop does have wifi, but, while it showed a connection, it could not display any web pages directly. Once I tethered the NexusOne, I surfed for the entire 5 hours I was at the doctor's office. Oddly, the Nexus used the same wifi network that the laptop couldn't!

Is it possible you are running an older version of the OS? I remember previous versions did not support this. Current version is Andriod 2.2.2, and you should be able to find the download link if necessary on this website to manually update.

    * After re-reading your post it looks like you are having trouble with Windows, and not necessarily the phone. It is possible your Wifi and internet are managed by another program. I know HP and Dell tend to use their own, and this is especially true with Windows XP where it was rather dificult to manage in the OS.

You may need to find the Wifi signal (NID) and set it up from this program rather than Windows itself.

Is it possible to check this tethering on laptop. It must have some number of property, settings. Maybe its can be needed to make a special connection or set IP, nets mask....

I believe you manage the actual connection on the phone itself, not your laptop. Connecting the phone through USB is essentially just sharing the connection.

It sounds like the phone may not be installing properly on your laptop. Check Device Manager in the control panel to see if it's listed.
