My nexus one crashed due to Gingerbread and it is out of warranty, please help

    Device: Nexus One
    Carrier: Unlock
    Country / Language: US/English
OS / Browser / build number (if applicable):

My Nexus one failed today after I update to Gingerbread. Software Update(Gingerbread) notification appears on my screen, after I click to install, it takes a while to finished to update, and the phone reboot successfully. But after that, the screen turn to black suddenly , and the phone is unusable no matter what button I pushed.

Then I turned off the phone by remove the battery, and try to reboot it. But the phones does not work any more. I also try to do a reset by press and hold the Trackball, Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time, but the phone does not show any response, it can not reboot and all that I can see is a black screen.

It seems my N1 has became a brick. I purchased this phone on Jan, 2010 and it is out of warranty now. Is there anyone has encounter the same problem? Or any suggestion to deal with the HTC Customer Service? Because this problem is obvious caused by their 2.3 update notification...

I can't really offer any real advice on what might have caused it.

but I can say that I know someone that recently had to warranty their nexus one and supposedly the customer support agent was really helpful. however their nexus one was under warranty.

You don't have anything to lose just calling to see what they say.

hopefully you can get it sorted it.. good luck!

Does the led light show when charging?
Have you tried holding the volume down and power when rebooting (just those two keys, not three like in your post)?

    1. Yes, the led light show when I charging, so I guess this might be software issue caused by the system update

    2. I tried, but it still doesn't work

    Ouch!
Wish I could offer a fix, but I'm struggling...

I would give HTC a call, and explain it happened directly after the update. Got to be worth a shot?

Hum... is it just me or gingerbread doesn't seam as stable as it should but if it's any consolation to you my phone did the same thing the day after I updated to cm7 (encase your not familiar with custom ROMs that is a hacked version of gingerbread) the only difference in the symptoms is the the charging light on mine doesn't turn on (I think that is why danger asked that). and I think this is the third time I see this (including mine).

Lets see if we can find a similar point in hardware mine has an lcd and was t-mo version.

Sorry about your warranty but that one your only option is to to complain a little and hope for the best.

Is there a Google number to call anymore? It seems to me that if you could somehow contact Google, they then could call htc and tell them that, yes it is a g-bread problem and then get them to do something about it... certainly worth a try if calling htc directly doesn't work.

It's a good idea, but I do a search and didn't find any such number. I guess Google does not provide any support for their phone and only ask HTC to handle the issues
