When you flash a rom you erase the data from the phone right? Do most of the rooting techniques rely on modifying files that exist inside the android os?

I dont know for sure if flashing would cause you to loose root. dr would probably be able to answer that 100%

If for example, I take the google ota and use it, I will lose root. Ghats why I asked about this because its from htc. My guess is its official and therefore spill cause me to have to hi back to froyo to root again. Something I doing really wasn't to do.

I'm pretty much unhappy with CM7 and the latest version of miui, so I am looking into a stock version of gingerbread.

Wow not happy with CM7 eh?
    How come?

If you were to go with a stock gingerbread ROM I guess you would have to give up your root though right? Really wish that gingerbreak would come!

Not sure it's CM7 now. I realized that being throttled by t-mobile may be part of the problem. My battery is great until I start using apps and such. Then it drains rapidly even after I've closed the apps and/or run task killer.if I leave it alone I drain 5% or more an hour. I'm also going to get rid of some new apps to see if they are culprits. In addition it's wonky. I wonder if dewonkificatr is the problem too. The battery drain coincides with my loading it.

Here if you flash this you will be on a mostly stock ROM just with a few mods and root access so you can have all the things we know and love about root along with simple old school feel of stock [ROM] GRI40 Stock, Deodexed, rooted, busybox, battery %, TB alert 3/04/11 - xda-developers and just in case you guys are still wondering if this will cause you to lose root then yes it will.
