To get to 2.3.4 you will have to manually flash the update, then without rebooting you have to flash the su zip, and I also recommend flashing my recovery fix (to stop the stock recovery from being restored).
Do not reboot between flashing the files, or you will loose your custom recovery.
Do not flash as an update.zip, because this will reboot your phone, instead use the "flash zip from SD" option...
Iv flashed the latest stable cyanogen, should i do something about it? or just flash the update over it?

When flashing the RC, do i have to flash the 2.3.4 update first? or?

Well, the actual rooting is here:
ND1Razor: How to: Root Android 2.3.4 (Nexus One)
Then download the CM version you want from the cyanogen site:
CyanogenMod Mirror Network - Powered by TDRevolution
device has to be Passion (nexus one)
and flash it
(step 12 on my site) and you should now be running cyanogen
