Been a while, i know, but warante has expired, phones scratched there were always advantages,
really wanted 720p shooting, extra speed and now Faceniff just keeps building.
Think I finally have the courage to root![]()

Still on the fence, I love stuff like this but with a phone that costs this much i was a bit weary.
Really want Faceniff, similar to firesheep :P
I know how to break into windows passwords and crack wifi from my laptop, just want one more weapon in my arsenal.
Im not evil, dont judge me :3
Iv poked around a bit, and as far as I can see, no way of rooting 2.3.4
Superoneclick works with 2.3.3 so does gingerbreak but nada on 2.3.4
You're right, there is no exploit for 2.3.4, but that only means you will suffer a little data loss...
If you sit on the fence for too long, someone is likely to try and push you... xD
lol,
As far as iv read, the first step without oneclick is to unlock the bootloader with a single command right?
Does the bootloader affect anything other than warantee? (also i dont like the little padlock while booting :3)
Then you need to flash amon ra or some such that will wipe your phone.
(no way to backup?)
Then what?
You can either unlock your bootloader, or you can use the passing trick to revert to an earlier version of android and root via exploit (keeping bootloader locked).
Both methods will wipe your data and settings. You can use MyBackup to backup a lot of things, and you may be able to backup other things worth other apps (depending on what you want). Game scores are gone...
Depending on which method you choose, custom recovery may not be essential, but it is such a great tool that I would really recommend installing one.
This is what I following atm xda-developers - View Single Post - Gingerbreak on 2.3.4
1) Flash to FRG33 using PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_relea se_signed.zip (rename to PASSIMG.ZIP), takes you to 2.2
2) Root using Super-One-Click
3) Install ROM Manager and flash CWM
4) Flash b90257ed8cd3.signed-passion-GRJ22-from-FRG33-121341.b90257ed.zip, takes you directly to 2.3.4
5) DON'T LET PHONE REBOOT into Android, go to recovery then Flash su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
6) Remove/rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh via ADB
7) If you have a recent backup, use CWM to 'advanced restore' the data portion.
8 ) Profit! (or root)
Is this the easiest way? or would flashing back and then oneclick/gringerbreak work?
also im having a little trouble understanding what flashing means,
Is it basicly installing a modified os?
Difference between Fastboot flashing and just flashing?
Also how do I go about doing it?
Here is says i need to unlock my bootloader to do so
But as you said above, its not necessary.
Sorry for all the questions, I am trying to research it, its all spread very thin round the web :|
That method is perfect for what you want. Instead of using adb for step 6, you can flash this script that I put together (does the same thing, only it's easier):
http://db.tt/ooDaCnU
Flashing is basically another term for installing (writing to flash memory). You can flash full ROMs, our just little bits and pieces (the script I made above deletes 2 files when flashed).
Unlocking the bootloader is not necessary for this method.
When you manually install an update from a zip is that flashing?
Is this the same as http://goo.gl/fWoS6
Whats CWM?
and since everything will be wiped anyway do i need step 7?
