Use Nexus One abroad to make long distance calls through Google Voice

How can I use my phone abroad to call the USA over Wifi so I am only charged through the Google Voice? I have heard of Groove IP but I was wondering if there was a free way to do this w/o having to pay for the app. I know Iphones can do it straight through skype (can we do the same through skype too? the app seems to suck major though)

Also, will Nexus One EVER get tmobile wifi calling? Pisses me off we dont have it

Skype with Wifi works very well on my Nexus One in Taiwan. I never tried over my 3G connection.

Google Voice with SipDroid or Fring was less pleasing. With 3G or Wifi, it was not reliable to receive a call or for both of us to hear each other. My biggest complaint with GV has always been the unreliability of receiving calls.

On my last trip, I couldn't even get GV to work on my notebook to make calls to US numbers. I ended up just using Skype to call US numbers.
