    yeah it doesn't make sense.
The phone is unlocked no matter which option you take when buying it. You are right about the prices...I guess I just looked at the numbers wrong before. Looks like you make up the price difference of buying the non-subsidized in 17.5 months with the savings of the cheaper plan ($59.99 vs. $79.99). If you look at it over the full 24 months of a contact, going unsubsidized saves you $130, if I figured it correctly.

yep. so buying it unsubsidized is a win-win situation....if you have the money.

I also figured if the nexus doesn't workout...you can always put it on ebay and probably get a little more than what you paid for.

Also at $529 its actually cheaper than the iphone, palm pre, and droid at full price.
i do not live in the US but if i would: i would totally agree with you!
since i'm an outsider i have to buy the unlock but in my county it's much cheaper to buy unlocked Nexus One(529$) Then a Locked IPhone (600$ sub, and 660$ Unlocked !)

Just speaking of costs, I live in China and thought you might be interested to know that a unlimited data plan costs 50 yuan, about 7 USD per month.

Where I live we are mostly on edge, I see 3G very seldomly.

SIM free is the only option in the UK currently, but a bit of number crunching informs that that it is like to work out a fair bit cheaper this way anyway.

For me walking around with a subsidize phone is like have a crippled phone with certain apps disabled (so that you use the carriers choice)...

Unlock is the way of the future!!
