I received my N1 today in the UK, ordered on Tuesday 5th received Friday 8th.

I paid $578.64 for an unsubsidised and unlocked phone (including the A/C adaptor) at the point of Google Checkout, there were no other hidden taxes or fees with the delivery by DHL.

First impressions are it's sweet as, makes my iPhone feel very old in terms of speed, look, and feel. The whole thing seems a lot more sophisticated and grown up, although it doesn't 'hold your hand' as much as the iPhone in terms of immediate usability.

I have a GMail business and personal account, whichever account you use for your calendar is the one you want to sign in with first. You can add a second account but you won't be able to pick the calendar up from this (I made this mistake), this is just working with the native software...I don't know if there's a app that gets around this. (Unfortunately my contacts are in my personal account and calendar in my work account...need to get around this somehow).

I added my WiFi password on first start-up and it then automatically synced with my GMail account.

I put my O2 iPhone contract/pay monthly sim in the phone, the text and voice calls worked immediately, I had to add the voicemail number (901).

The following are the settings to get you 3G and MMS working. The idea being when you've entered these you'll have two entries in your APN menu called 'mobile web' and 'O2 MMS'.

    Press 'Menu'.
    Tap 'Settings'.
    Tap 'Wireless & Networks'.
    Tap 'Mobile networks'.
    Tap 'Access Point Names'.
    Press 'Menu'.
    Tap 'New APN'

Now key in the following settings:

    Name: mobile web
    APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
    Proxy: *LEAVE BLANK*
    Port: *LEAVE BLANK*
    Username: web
    Password: password
    Server: *LEAVE BLANK*
    MMSC: *LEAVE BLANK*
    MMS Proxy: *LEAVE BLANK*
    MMS Port: *LEAVE BLANK*
    MCC: 234
    MNC: 10
    APN Type: default

    Press 'Menu'
    Tap 'Save'

    Press 'Back'.
    Press 'Menu'.
    Tap 'New APN'

    Name: O2 MMS
    APN: wap.o2.co.uk
    Proxy: http://wap.o2.co.uk
    Port:9201
    Username: o2wap
    Password: password
    Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
    MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
    MMSproxy: 193.113.200.195
    MMS port: 8080
    MCC: 234
    MNC: 10
    APN type: mms

    Press 'Menu'
    Tap 'Save'

(These are courtesy from a post by Zenith on the O2 forum originally written for the HTC Hero, I've modified the Menu structure accordingly...O2 Forum :: View topic - No 3G support for HTC HERO??!!!)

That's as far as I've got and am pretty much up and fully running now, time to explore!

    HTH

P.s. I've not really sussed Visual Voicemail yet, how you get 'My phone number' to appear in the field on the Status page, or most importantly found a decent free porn site that works - let me know if you do.........;-/)

Cheers mate the settings worked great.

Anyone know when Google is selling the N1 from the UK instead of having to import it?

Okay so I have done all of that and I still cannot send MMS yet I can with my iPhone - just says failedf to send and the one that I need to download says failed to download...also I have noticed that when I try and do a mobile upload of a pic to Facebook it fails, yet if I upload a photo to an album is appears to work.

Any ideas? I have the MMS settings from above and I have reduced my image size down to 2m pixels.

What does O2 say about no mms?

The MMS messages are sending and recieving fine on my Nexus on the O2 network the only issue is that the pictures im recieving are really small thumbnail sized.

As far as i know this has something to do with the O2 networks User Agent scaling the MMS to a size that it believes your handset can handle which is not the optimized one for the Nexus One,but it doesnt know that because the O2 network does not sell nor offer any support for the phone nor do any of the UK networks at current the phones are merely just compatible with them.

The HTC hero had a similar issue on O2 but someone released a rom update over at XDA forums,I may be vastly mistaken with my facts but i do believe this is whats causing the issues.

I also have tried several of the settings detailed without any resolution. Phoned O2 twice, once last week and they said it would be enabled in 24 hours. Phoned again tonight but still having issues, just get the little red envelope with a clock next to any MMS I try to send.

Just to clarify here, I originally purchased an iPhone 3G. Could you all post which iPhone version you have (3G or 3GS) and whether or not you have MMS working with 02 or not. Contract/PAYG would also be helpful. For example, for me:

iPhone 3G - Contract - MMS not working

I take it all back, I did the following:

    1. Called O2 to verify MMS was enabled on my account
    2. Deleted all APN from the APN list
    3. Added two new APN as detailed in this post
    4. Turned off phone, switched back on
    5. Made a new MMS and ensured image size was less than 300kb
