However, I've visited that site and it states the native app is pre-installed.

I tried www.gmail.com and this doesn't let me select text from my gmail account and won't even let me log in to my google apps account!

I'm not normally this slow - could you please tell me exactly what you have installed to enable dialling from the app?!
The GMAIL app was not pre-installed on my N1, the Google "email" app was. While they both connect to your gmail web account, the application call gmail (not the original email) will dial when an emailed phone number is tapped. Just be sure you download the gmail application. It will have the "Gmail" name on your phone and appear as an envelope with a Red M, while the pre-installed email will appear as an envelope with a yellow page with a white @ sign.
    Thanks Maris

I am using the Google Mail app with the Google mail icon and a red M.

This does not allow me to select and dial a number contained in an email.

For the avoidance of doubt it is called Google Mail and not Gmail. I did not install it and when I first switched on my phone but I entered my Google Apps credentials and it automatically set up.................

I just tested mine by sending a email to my gmail account. Went to the N1, opened the email, taped on the phone number XXX-XXX-XXXX and it went to the phone. Tapped the green handset and it dialed the call. I looked for settings for this but see none. It should work. Its should be a default. Do it work off web pages?

I'm on day 3 of my Nexus ownership experience and so far so good (upgraded from Nokia E72)!

I am having one issue that I cannot resolve and would appreciate some help.

I use a telephone message answering service for my business when I am out of the office. The message is then emailed to me and on my previous phone I was able to simply click on the number in the email to call the person who has left the message.

In Gmail I am unable to select any text etc in the email. It's probably a simple solution although I have even read the manual and couldn't see it there!

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Nexus one does not support that function. The only copy / cut & paste is supported within phone app i.e messaging, contacts etc.

Things like web page / email no luck.
The Nexus One does support Copy and paste in the bowser and email I use it everyday. to call a number you receive in your email simply touch it with your finger and the page will automatically redirect you to your phone dialer withthe number already dialed, all you have to do is push the green talk icon. to copy a message simply hold your finger over the text and a menu will appear select Copy Message Text, if you want to past it, simply hold your finger on the text box and a menu will appear where you can Copy/Cut/Paste and other options

I hope this helps you.

Finally!! thanks for your input Maris, this will also help others who may have this problem, the app with the phone doesn't support it.

    Almost there!!

Just need Maris or anybody else to confirm which Gmail App as I have been searching the market without success!

Any pointers would be very much appreciated!!
I'm actually confused, the specific GMail app he is talking about came pre installed on my phone.

This thread's doing my head in! No matter what I try I cannot click on a phone number in an email.

I, too, sent myself an email with my phone number in two formats - both (5+6 digits) nnnnn nnnnnn and also (11 digits) nnnnnnnnnnn

I checked in the built-in Gmail program (has the red envelope) but nothing to click on.

I set up my gmail account in the built in email program (has a white envelope with yellow letter and white @ symbol) - couldn't click on the numbers.

I went to my browser and navigated to m.google.com/mail went to the email in question - couldn't click on the numbers.

So how can some peeps on here do it?

By what people are saying and I believed was confirmed, it is not the gmail pre-installed on the phone, but one from the app market...

I haven't had time to find and install to confirm, but what I'm told this is the one that will work i.e phone numbers etc.

Well I am experiencing this issue on the pre-installed Gmail app - apparently the other Gmail app has disappeared from the market!

First thing I did when I switched on my phone for the first time was to enter my Google Apps and Gmail credentials.
